Abstract:
In this work the gamma-ray spectrometry method for determination of uranium enrichment ratio is presented with a high purity Germanium (HPGe) semiconductor detector. The method was applied for measurement of a sample of small volume(powders of uranium) in a cylindrical recipient type sarpagan. The measurement was performed in close geometry (source placed directly on the detector). The two constituents of uranium were measured using the following gamma radiations: for 235U (185.72 keV, emission 57.0 %), and for 238U (1001.03 keV, emission 0.839 %) corresponding to the daughter 234mPa at equilibrium. The efficiency values of the system were determined with similar geometry standards. The final result was: the determined ratio of masses: M(235U)/M(238U) is not statistically different from the theoretical value 0.0072 % and it was concluded that the sample was of natural uranium.
